<—- Back to Board of Directors Home ![]() Graeme Field, Paramedic, BA Psy, BHthSci Pre-Hospital Care Graeme has been with New South Wales Ambulance Services since 1979 when he began as a Paramedic. In 1991 he was promoted to Manager of Media and Public Affairs. He became Director of Aeromedical Operations in 2002 in addition to Chief Superintendent of Fixed Wing Operations. Q: Tell us about your job and what you love most about it. A: Being part of a highly specialized, dedicated group of Flight Coordinators and Dispatchers, Nurses, Paramedics and Doctors working at the highest clinical level. Dealing with a variety of stakeholders – aviation and medical Q: What / Who inspired you to follow an air medical / critical care transport career path and how did you break into it? A: I have always been interested in aviation and aviation medicine. The person who had the position before me asked if I could work at Air Ambulance while he was on leave, and then when he retired, I successfully applied for the position. I guess I was lucky to be considered originally, but you also have to make the most of your luck!! Q: What is your proudest career-defining moment that best represents your overall professional expertise and experience? A: In 2011 I received an Australia Day Award (Ambulance Service Medal) for “outstanding dedication in the role as Media Manager and in his current role at Aeromedical Operations for helping to develop a state of the art aeromedical retrieval system…” Q: What inspired you to join the AAMS Board? A: I believe AAMS is the only organization that represents air medical transport world wide. It is committed to its members and quality air medical and critical care ground transport world wide. Q: What are your top three impact goals you plan to achieve as a board member?
A: 1) Financial improvement and stability Q: What do you see as the future of our industry and what is the best way to adapt to a changing landscape; and given that, what are the role do you see AAMS play in that change? A: Adaptability is key, especially given the impacts of COVID-19, and AAMS has an important role to play in education and advocacy. Q: What’s your favorite book / movie / movie quote and why? A: Any of the Naked Gun movies – we all need a good laugh. |
