October 12, 2023: Insights from AAMS President and CEO, Jana Williams

Thursday, October 12, 2023
Hello friends,

WOW! The AAMS team is in overdrive making final preparations for THE Air Medical Transport Conference in Columbus, Ohio which is rapidly approaching.

I am proud of them and the numerous volunteers who have engaged and helped us design a refreshed experience for everyone attending—exhibitors, attendees, presenters, sponsors, and meeting-goers alike.

You shared, we listened.  I want to spotlight a few of the recent additions to our program that may be of interest.

Specific to your asks regarding safety, I am thrilled to share a collaboration with AAMS, the Air Medical Operators Association (AMOA) and Helicopters Association International (HAI) for a 2-part Safety Roundtable scheduled for Monday, October 23rd.

Part I: The Inadvertent Combative Patient - Many Views will be presented as a 360-degree view of combative patient issues, considerations, and solutions.  The session opens with leading experts in patient safety sharing insights and evolves into an open forum Q & A with facilitated discussion. Come prepared to interact in this evolving conversation.  Part I is scheduled from 0900-1015h.

Part II - Safely Sharing Space - Drones and EMS will discuss the increasing prevalence of drones in EMS and their safety considerations and implications. Hear lessons learned from organizations who have conducted impact trials of drones for medical use in the same space as a HEMS program and others developing technology in this realm rapidly growing in our future.  This session will also include an open forum Q & A and promises audience and expert panel interaction.  Part II is scheduled from 1045-1200h.

Highlighting our enhanced advocacy efforts, we're excited to introduce two of the lead team members from Thorn Run Partners during the AAMS Advocacy Hour on Monday, October 23 at 1330h. Kyle Sanders and Shea McCarthy hit the ground running and have played a crucial role in AAMS advocacy efforts in the last several months. Please plan to join us and bring your questions for an open dialogue on public policy efforts with Kyle, Shea, and the AAMS Public Affairs Committee members.

Breaking up the traditional format was important to you thus we created “Sound Bytes” high speed, low drag, 20-min impact sessions for those short on time (or attention).

You recognized the AMTC stage as the one place that represents world-wide colleagues from all aspects of our industry. You shared the importance of celebrating more people doing great work in our entire community.  To that end, we revamped the awards experience to highlight all our finalists in each AAMS category (not just the winners) and to also showcase the recipients of our allied partner organization’s awards.

You wanted to get real.  This year, we have an impressive list of interactive/hands-on lab/workshop sessions, several of which have been added to the program since registration opened back in May.  You can still add one of these options if you're interested! Simply click here, log in with your email address and confirmation code/registration ID found on your original email confirmation to add what you wish.

And lastly, single-day registrations are now available! If three days in Columbus is not feasible for you, please consider joining us for one day and earn the CE credits offered for that day.  This is also a great way to “check us out” to see how AAMS is evolving!

I can't wait to see many of you in Columbus very soon! Whether you are coming for the full conference or for a single day, the AAMS team and our partners are ready to welcome you to THE AMTC23!  Please know as we continue to enhance, our aim is to provide you with an enjoyable and productive experience today and beyond!

With great respect,

Jana Williams
