Dear AAMS Community,

I would like to take a moment to connect with each of you directly as the Coronavirus COVID-19 continues to impact our lives. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of all of you, along with our patients and families who are counting on us to be ready to take care of them when they need us the most. During this critical time we have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation, we are partnering closely with the EMS COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Working Group, hosted by NHTSA Office of EMS and includes CDC, DHS, and DHHS Office of Preparedness, as well as multiple National EMS affiliated associations, and staying apprised of updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

I know that each of your programs are dedicated to keeping your crews up to date on the direction given by the CDC regarding the appropriate use of PPE and over all preparedness. In addition to our patients, it’s vitally important that we protect you from COVID-19. Please be diligent in taking every precaution to keep yourself well so you can continue to deliver the excellent standard of care to your patients, that they deserve and expect from your programs. Continue to practice good hand-washing techniques, decontaminate your vehicle completely and follow safe practices to combat COVID-19 that are recommended by the CDC.

As this ever-changing situation unfolds before us, I am sure you will be challenged to make changes to your practice guidelines, and your screening criteria for those needing ground and or air transport. Every day, even before COVID -19, transports are case by case based on your programs Medical Direction and patient’s condition. We appreciate your ability to make those decision, based on the situation you are presented.

In closing, I will be in touch with you again as high-priority updates and information needs to be shared. In the meantime, I want to personally thank you for all you are doing to provide the needed care for all of our patients. It is indeed an honor to work alongside you.
